Mission

To bring renewable energy and energy efficiency (RE/EE) into the mainstream of the Latin American and Caribbean regions – with regard to their economy, industry, trade, government, environment, and climate change. By optimizing domestic energy resources with commercially-available energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies --  the countries within the hemisphere can reduce imports of fossil fuels and minimize fuel cost fluctuations, reduce emissions causing changes in global climate and harming human health, and significantly increase local employment and economic growth -- making the Americas a model for hemispheric cooperation; and contribute to the “Greening of the Americas” campaign.

Overview

In April 2009, President Obama proposed a new Energy-Climate Partnership of the Americas intended to harness the progress in sustainability, renewable energy, and greenhouse gas reduction throughout the Western Hemisphere. The president invited nations across Latin America and the Caribbean to join this voluntary and flexible partnership, to enhance energy efficiency and security, modernize infrastructure, and support investments that can make energy more affordable.

This initiative reinforces The Latin American and Caribbean Council On Renewable Energy (LAC-CORE) commitment to bring renewable energy and energy efficiency (RE/EE) into the mainstream of the Latin American and Caribbean regions – with regard to their economy, industry, trade, government, environment, and climate change. By optimizing domestic energy resources with commercially-available energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies --  the countries within the hemisphere can reduce imports of fossil fuels,  minimize fuel cost fluctuations, reduce emissions causing changes in global climate and harming human health, while significantly increasing local employment and economic growth -- making the Americas a model for hemispheric cooperation.

LAC-CORE will function as a convening resource and platform in the region through the organization of events, conferences, webinars, seminars, workshops, forums, and trade shows.  These events will promote the development of productive and sustainable renewable energy projects while encouraging key relationships with energy leaders, multinational agencies, businesses and public interest groups. The purpose of these activities is to highlight regional projects that are underway, as well as providing visibility for commercialized RE technologies for specific projects or regions. There will be a focus on locating funding, investments, and other areas of support for these projects. LAC-CORE will track their progress using the LAC-CORE website and other resources to quantify sustainability of RE projects.

Through these services, LAC-CORE will encourage a diverse membership base to advance RE/EE growth and practices to the full potential of the Americas. Our intention is to draw the public and private sectors of the Western Hemisphere across all boarders in pursuit of supporting RE/EE projects.

LAC-CORE will achieve this mission by providing a forum for information sharing and convening amongst participants in the RE/EE sectors. The sharing of responsibilities among local organizations will broaden the network in this hemisphere and result in strong deliverables. The expertise of local regional organizations combined with the networking and communication capabilities of LAC-CORE, promise a comprehensive approach to energy issues in all areas of Latin America and the Caribbean.
